Myanmar
Myanmar, with its official name as “The Republic of the Union of Myanmar”, is located in the South-East region of Asia continent. Being one of the ASEAN countries, Myanmar is bordered by Bangladesh in the West, India in North-West, China in North and North-East, Laos in the East and Thailand in the South-East and Andaman sea in the south. According to 2014 Census data, Myanmar has 53.63 millions of population, where 80% residing in the rural areas and 20% of them staying in the urban areas. Myanmar is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the region with some of the disastrous history: Tsunami (2005), Cyclone Nargis (May 2008), Cyclone Giri (Oct. 2010) and Earthquake in Tarlay (March 2011).
With long-standing civil armed conflicts that have been exacerbated by the Military Coup on 1st Feb 2021 pushed the country into the country that needs urgent humanitarian assistance and the attention of International community around the Globe. Currently, ToGETHER in Myanmar is promoting the localization programme through strengthening the capacities of 5 local actors in the areas of humanitarian assistance, preparedness, coordination and advocacy in the following state and region of the country in Shan, Kayin, Rakhine and Chin.

Local Humanitarian Partners (LHPs)
Community Empowerment and Resilience Association (CERA) is one of the LHP under the ToGETHER Localization program in Rakhine state, situated on the western coast; bordered by Chin State to the north in Myanmar. CERA is implemented in line with 4 road maps of ToGEHTER such as capacity strengthening to local CSO by using the OCA tool, engaging in order to support humanitarian response effectively, and participating in the regular coordination meetings among other LHPs in the country, Involving humanitarian response (HOIFA), and collaboration with local actors in the region which aimed to promote localization.
Green Life Alliance for Development (GLAD) is active member of Localization Core Team led by KMSS and Working Committee member of NRG led by LPF in Myanmar and GLAD is also implementing the emergency response (humanitarian assistance project) in Southern Shan and Northern Shan state Also in others area with Alliance CSOs. In addition, GLAD will be Consortium member of MHF funding program 2022-2023 led by KMSS in Southern Shan state. This would be added value and synergies for GLAD to offer the humanitarian assistance to the conflict zone in coordinated and effective manner.
Grassroots Empowerment and Ecosystem Nurturing (GREEN) was founded in 2011 by those who are committed to work for community developments. GREEN’s goal is to create green land and lives and GREEN’s mission is to create sustainable access of community development with a holistic approach. GREEN is actively responding to the displaced communities in Chin State with basic items such as food and cash assistance to the crisis affected communities. The setting up of (GREEN) is propelled by the backward of lack of knowledge/education and food insecurity which forces high migration in Chin state.
Myanmar Heart Development Organization (MHDO) was established in 2006 as a local NGO in Myanmar. Its focus areas include DRR and emergency response, WASH, health, nutrition, infrastructure development, agro-based food security and livelihoods, environmental development, and non-formal education. MHDO has a strong track record of implementing projects in these sectors in partnership with UN agencies and INGOs such WFP, DCA/NCA, NRC and Mercy Relief Singapore. MHDO has Yangon Office located in North Dagon Township. Its core staff team includes technical experts and staff with experience in WASH, health, nutrition, livelihoods, emergency response and early recovery.
Sopyay Myanmar Development Organization (SMDO) established since 2011 with understanding empowerment and critical point to build the country in sustainable development and poverty alleviation. SMDO standstill for the capacity development of communities in every projects implementation by enriching the resilience of people and reduction poverty to support SDG through Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Risk-Informed Development and strengthening the capacity of communities in DRR-Disaster Preparedness, Response and Disaster Risk Management and Risk-Informed Development. Empowering Communities and Community based Organization with development concept, skills and experiences and transfer the technical know-how, mainstreaming gender and disability inclusion.
