ToGETHER partners in Indonesia participated at the National Disaster Risk Reduction Commemoration Month

In an effort to actively promote localization in humanitarian action, ToGETHER Indonesia made a significant impact at the National Disaster Risk Reduction Commemoration Month organized by Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana from 10-15 October 2023, in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi. The event, which drew more than 1.000 participants, served as a platform to share, learn and collaborate. Here are the key highlights of ToGETHER Indonesia’s involvement in this important event:
- Exhibition
ToGETHER Indonesia brought a diverse array of products to the exhibition, ranging from engaging board games to informative disaster preparedness comics, calendars and the unveiling of the new book, “Voices from the Village” (Suara dari Kampung). This book shared inspiring stories of progress from various Local Humanitarian Partners (LHPs), emphasizing the positive impact of localization initiatives. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in interactive quizzes, with ToGETHER materials up for grabs as prizes. This interactive approach helped raise awareness about the importance of local involvement in disaster risk reduction.
- Talkshow on “Equal Partnerships for Localization in Humanitarian Action in Indonesia”
ToGETHER Indonesia organized a talkshow that brought together representatives from all ToGETHER partners in Indonesia. The discussion revolved around the program’s objectives, approaches, and its overall impact, as well as addressed the challenges and strategies associated with localization efforts.
- Launch of LoKaNusa Forum
The commitment to localization was further underscored as ToGETHER partners in Indonesia introduced the Indonesian Localization Forum, known as LoKaNusa. The launch of this forum marked a crucial step towards fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange within the different actors and promote localization of humanitarian action in Indonesia. This side-event started with the workshop “Finding the role of journalists in Disaster Risk Reduction”, with speakers from the Disaster Data and Information Center from Disaster Management Capacity of the National Agency, SKALA Indonesia and Green Press. Participants at this workshop consisted of journalists, National and Local NGOs, the National Research Agency, the Director of Preparedness from Disaster Management Capacity of the National Agency. The event culminated in the launch of the forum.
