ToGETHER recognised for advancing local humanitarian action in the Global Humanitarian Overview 2024
In the latest edition of the Global Humanitarian Overview 2024, ToGETHER has been featured, underscoring its commitment to advancing local humanitarian action. Specifically highlighted in section 2, titled “Delivering better – As local as possible: progress in making localization in humanitarian action a reality,” are the significant contributions made by ToGETHER and its partners in various regions.
One notable example highlighted in the publication is the partnership with the Association for Alternative Development (AFAD) in Bangladesh. AFAD assists women in leading their own local responses to humanitarian crises. With support from ToGETHER, AFAD has improved its access to national-level coordination mechanisms, increased resources for small-scale humanitarian efforts, and advocated for local voices in decision-making processes.
Beyond Bangladesh, ToGETHER’s partners in Colombia, the DR Congo, and Indonesia have been positioned as key ambassadors for localisation. They have organised initiatives such as the Congress of Localised Humanitarian Action and established coordinating bodies and forums for local NGOs, overall creating essential platforms for dialogue and debate.
Together, these endeavours signify a collective commitment towards fostering a more locally driven, relevant, and effective humanitarian response on a global scale.
